Sauly Update – November

G’day everyone. I’m at home with the flue (maybe from partying too much) and I thought there would be no better time than now to get on my very slow laptop and do a quick story. Last time I was about to go do some shows at the EB Games convention. It would have to be one of the best places for a show, 10 minutes from where I live, in doors and a shit load of people there. Half of the people were wearing costumes like the Legend of Zelda and some even looked like they popped straight out of the new Call of Duty game but they were still going crazy for the things we were doing on our bikes.

Next up was the start of the Super X rounds and first up was Melbourne. It wasn’t looking good from the start as it was suppose to rain all weekend. It wasn’t too bad the day before the event then traditional Melbourne weather really turned it on for us the day of the event. We didn’t even take our bikes out of the Showtime truck because it pretty much poured down all day which sucked because Burchy and I missed out on riding at the Gold Coast v8s that were on at the same time. We Still managed to make it back for the Sunday afternoon party which is always fun. We were getting ready to do the next Super X round then got a call on the Thursday afternoon saying we have been cancelled from all the Super X rounds cause of the weather.

So Burchy Bayard and myself loaded up the van and headed up to Rockhampton for the last round of the Underground tour (The Unit FMX Pro Open) thanks to the boys that let us enter right at the last minute. The comp was run so well and it has come a long way. I ended up getting 2nd behind Luke McNeil. My near death experience went like this……….. Semi finals, last jump. Went for a seat grab indy flip, had a bit of a brain fade and pulled like a KOD flip, missed the grab and ended up doing a one handed KOD flip (note my flip levers were down) then grabbed back on with that hand and somehow my right shoulder hit the front guard and I managed to lever myself back onto the bike and landed it. Unfortunately my feet didn’t land on the pegs and both hit the ground. My left ankle got the tingles straight away like maybe something cracked. I still managed to finish the day with 2nd so I’m stoked. I maybe should have went and got it x rayed but I didn’t want a doctor to tell me yeah its broken and you have to have it in plaster for 6 to 8 weeks so I just stayed off it for 3 and yeah it still hurts ha-ha.

We got a last minute call to do to the Sand Down v8 round in Melbourne. It was a very cruisey event and we had fun as always. The Saturday show was crazy. It started to spit when we just got out on track then 1 jump into it started to rain heavy. We couldn’t see and it looked like we just went for a swim in all our gear but we still managed to do a quick show. Now that was scary.

Alrighty the best event of the year, MELBOURNE SEXPO. WoW  I could just stop there ha-ha. PORN STARS, HOT NAKED CHICKS EVERYWHERE, 5 NIGHTS OF SOLID PARTYING but that was fine cause our first show each day didn’t start till 3pm. Let’s just say good times and by far the best event of the year. I’m outa here till next time. seeup

Sauly Update – October

Alrighty, it’s been a while since I have done a story and I’m not too sure where to start. Ok let’s see……. The last update was that my knee was infected and I had to spend 4 nights in hospital getting pumped full of all kinds of antibiotics. I guess that’s nothing compared to all my new injuries ha-ha but I’ll get to them later.

After the awesome shows at Movie World we were getting ready to do the Brisbane Ekka which is a big event for us and is close to home which always makes things good. 7 days straight at the Ekka was so much fun, we didn’t miss any shows, the crowed was always packed full. Which are at least 20 thousand people, yep that’s a good feeling. I was lucky enough to get the last day of the Ekka off so I could go up to Gladstone for the Jono Porter Memorial race which is held every year and is getting bigger and better. The JP trophies are the coolest things I’ve ever seen, I wish I was fast at racing again so I could get one J.

I flew back to the Gold Coast that Sunday arvy so I could go home and pull my bike apart and get it ready to fly to NZ Monday morning for a week of fun and Snowboarding before doing a show at Methvin for the big air comp. As always I had a ball and ran amuck over there ha-ha it’s like I have a reputation to uphold over there (in a good way that is) and I never let my NZ buddies down.  It was a cool set up as we jumped over the top of a man made downhill snow jump. The only bad thing was the run in went from flat into a steep downhill just before the ramp but we made do and still put on a great show for 10 thousand drunk people.

Then things started to go downhill L. My next show was at the Ken Block Gymkhana in Melbourne. Traditional Melbourne weather brought 50 k winds but it was a tail wind so it wasn’t too bad. We had to get the timing right with me jumping over the top while Ken drifted underneath. After about 7 attempts a gust of wind got me on a flip and I landed sideways and couldn’t save it, lost control and ran straight into a concrete barrier and did some major damage to my left shoulder (we got the shot though) yeeeeeeeeeeew. From that crash I missed out on the Adelaide Royal Show, The Coffs Harbour rally even and the Melbourne Royal Show. I had to get MRI scans and x rays. The damage report was pretty bad as the sports doctor held the scans up and said yep you definitely need a reco and you’ll be out for 6 to 9 months. Off to the specialist I went. He did a lot of test on me and said he didn’t want to operate and it may heal its self.

This is where my BackInMotion Physio comes in handy. I gave them the results and he said I wouldn’t be riding for at least 4 weeks. As I don’t listen to people at the best of times I went out that next day and rode a bit of moto x. Within 3 days I was back into riding freestyle and doing what I do. How’s that for either being tuff or just plain stupid.

First show back was at the Deni Ute Muster. Now if you have been there you know what it’s all about. Unluckily it was a big mud bowl and we didn’t even get to start our bikes so we just made up for that with partying. Turns out girls really like getting there tops off (strange huh)

Off to Bathurst we went for a weekend of the V8s. Always a fun event even though we are hidden up behind a grand stand and I don’t think a lot of people even know we are there. An uphill run in that was very wet and sandy made thing interesting but we still nailed it. Now here I am laying on my bed writing this before I have an early night to wake up and go do the EB Games event on the Gold Coast so stayed tunned for the next update, SEEEEEEEEEUP.

Sauly Update – June/July

You know it, it’s time for another update and I thought there is no better time to do it while I’m lying in a hospital bed, but I’ll get to that later. Where was I last……. I think we had just finished the Sydney Royal Easter Show and a whole lot of riding at Schuieville.

It was about that time of year when all the carnie shows start rolling in. First stop was Hawskburry show. It was so cold during the night shows that my fingers were numb, nothing holding them at the back of the exhaust won’t fix J  It was a great weekend doing 2 shows a day then going to Penrith Panthers club to have some drinks with the Holden team and the ShowTime boys (if ya don’t mind).

We drove straight back home to the Gold Coast for the Jet Pilot night of nights show. We had the Showtime truck set up ready to go then the weather took a turn for the worse. It rained the whole time then stopped for 20 minutes, just enough time so Bilko, Balchy, Matty Mac, Burchy and I could throw down. It was pretty cool riding in front of all my drunken mates yelling out to me calling me Maddo. (KNOBS)

My next stop was for the Rockhampton Carnie show. I like riding up that way because it’s only an hour from where I grew up and spent 20 years of my life, good old Gladstone. I had to leave there straight away and drive back home for the Winter Nationals drag racing event. The first day of shows was awesome. We drove back out there the next day to find out the whole event had been cancelled due to a shit load of rain. Come the following Thursday I went for a practice a day before we had to go to the Sunny Coast to do The Nambour Carnie show. I don’t know what happened but I looped out straight off the ramp and I couldn’t save it so I had to bail, Landing feet first where I thought I would have snapped both ankles (no snapping sound) then rolled onto my shoulder (no crunching sound) then smashed my head on the ground snapping my peak off and popping my lens straight out of my goggles. Somehow I walked out of that just with a sore knee and a bit of fluid in it, WOW. The next day we drove to Nambour and had 3 fun days of shows with the Showtime team.

Off to Serco for the lunch of the 2012 Answer gear. We ended up setting up the truck in their car park with just enough room to get a show out for all the reps that attended. I came up short first jump and snapped my foot peg off so that was me done for the night. Ohh and that really hurt my knee as you could imagine. At this stage my knee was twice the size as it should have been.

No time to rest. We started rehearsals at Movie World 2 days later for the Moto Monster Xtreme show which will be running over the holidays for 25 days straight. It’s an awesome show and I’m lucky to be a part of it. The only bad thing is that it kinda feels like a real job ha-ha but I do love it. Sampson the monster truck and wheelie jeep, Mingay on his stunt Harley doing skids and wheelies, Jack Field doing his trial bike things that are really cool and Burchy and myself just hanging of our bikes yeeeew. 5 days into the show my knee wasn’t getting any better it was getting worse. Turns out I have a pretty bad infection in it which needs to be treated for the next couple of days. Ohh well I think I’m really lucky to be walking after that crash so yeah go crazy J

Sauly Update – April/May

So Here I am in Adelaide where back in 2002 I nearly killed myself by attempting a back flip. Turns out I only got the thing half way around which doesn’t make for a very good landing. Its kinda scary coming back here just cause of that but that’s what we do  J.

Alrighty, straight back into doing shows at the Clipsal 500. Everything is going great except for waiting for Burchy to get out of the shower every morning and night. He tends to spend a lot of time in there I’m not sure why he would be taking so long HAHA strange. Clipsal was a really fun weekend with us doing 13 out of 13 shows all spot on. Things got a little sketchy when I had trouble getting back on from a Cordova flip, luckily a bit of talent kicked in and I rode out of it. It rained prior to the last show but I was leaving there on a bad not so we pulled that show off somehow. We had to celebrate a good weekend of course so we went out to a Sunday sesh and let’s just say we let the dogs out HAHA.

We started our 8 hour road trip to Melbourne for the GP. Hard times after a night of letting the dogs out I must say. Melbourne really brought on its amazing weather as usual with rain and wind for the Thursday and Friday shows, Once again flipping small gaps helps in them situations. The Saturday and Sunday shows were a little windy but we still got to do our usual thing and really hang off our bikes. Apart from all the dancing in the truck before each show and the riding, all the fun started after the shows where we would make our way over to the Monster Energy tent where there were 18 smoking hot Monster girls, free drinks, good music, a lot of really cool people and even some Rehearsed Showtime crew dance routines. Now that was a laugh, ohh and a whole lot of letting the dogs out.

One of the biggest events of the year would be the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The Showtime crew and I spent 14 days there doing 2 shows a day with crowds reaching up to 21 thousand people watching us do our thing. Big crowds free breakfast lunch and dinner every day while we were there, it was going to be hard coming home and buying food again J.

So here I am back at the Gold Coast after a big day of riding out at Schuieville. Today would have been the best day of riding I’ve ever had on a dirt bike. With Bilko’s help I ended up flipping a big 110 foot dirt hit and also flipping a massive step up (scary times) anyways I’m flogged so I’m going to sleep. See you soon.

Sauly Update – February/March

I’m sitting on the air train from the Gold Coast to the Brisbane airport with Brad (the cuddler) Burch and let me tell you it’s times like this I wish I had my own private jet J. After spending a couple of weeks at Jackson Strong’s place, I learnt how to ride again and started doing all my big tricks like I use to. If you spend a couple of weeks at Jacko’s you know your riding is going to get a lot better, you’re going to get up to a bit of mischief and your definitely going to see a lot of nakedness weather you like it or not.

It was time for another Showtime event at St Kilda which has a good 300 thousand people walk though during the day. I had an awesome weekend with the Showtime crew, Matt Mingay doing skids and wheelies on his Harley (everyone loves a burnout) ha-ha and Monster Energy also had their sweet decked out truck on display, that thing is real NOICE. Ohh and don’t forget about the smoking hot Monster babes. I was lucky enough to get a signed calendar from one of them (I swear that’s all I got)    ;)   All the shows were spot on except for the end of the day when things got a little windy but we still did what we do and finished the day on a good note. The next round of shows was for the Canberra royal show. Conditions being pretty tuff with a bit of wind and also the grass being wet a lot of the time. The only time I was getting traction was on the ramp which made things pretty exciting but scary.

We ended up driving from Canberra to Melbourne to ride with Sincs and Bilko for the week. I ended up flipping really small gaps of a standard ramp which is pretty cool to see so the boys tell me, kinda gay but it’s really help full when it’s too windy and we can only do smaller gap shows. Mark Monea (Monz) aka carry on landed the world’s first front flip 360 looking thing off the super kicker at 50 feet. That was amazing to see.

Off to the Avalon air show we go. On the Friday it would have been the windiest conditions we have ever ridden in. Flipping small gaps came in handy on the Friday. The Saturday and Sunday were windy as well but we stopped being such pansies and did what we do on the bigger gaps.

Anyways I’m running out of things to talk about so I’m going to get off this thing before I start talking a whole lot of trash. SEEUP.

Sauly – January 2011 Update!

Hey all how’s it going. Since the end of the Thirst For Destruction Crusty tour in 2010 where I hurt my back a little by going long while flipping the Harley, I’m glad to say I healed up really quick and was back into riding within a couple of weeks. While doing as much riding on my Husqvarnas as I could I was having a lot of fun riding them. It was pretty cool that no one thought anyone would ever do freestyle on a Husky so it brought a lot of attention my way, which I love J. Then it turns out X mass was just around the corner so it was time to have a rest for a few weeks and relax. After X mass and new years (which was a massive 4 weeks straight) was finished, Ben Foster the editor of FreeRider magazine called me and asked if I wanted to ride their Project bike for the year and which was really nice of him cause now he doesn’t have a bike to ride haha (Top Bloke). Now being a kawi rider I got the opportunity to ride with the Monster Kawasaki Showtime FMX team again which I couldn’t pass up. Showtime helped kick off my career about 6 years ago and with them riding the 2011 Kawasaki’s it looks like it is going to be a good year. I hadn’t even ridden a kawi before then Gary Reed called and asked me to do a show at Mulwala which is always fun. Brad (THE CUDDLER) Burch and I had to detour every way we could just to get through all the floods in and around Queensland. A 13 hour trip took us 18 hours, we were Glad that was over. It was Thursday and raining heavily, I ended up getting 20 minutes to ride the bike and get use to it which wasn’t really enough time as I was feeling sketchy. Show day Friday and it was straight into the show. I was really worried about not being able to do me normal tricks but turns out I can do that stuff straight up YAY.

Now I’m in Mildura with Trials Jack doing crazy things on Harley Davidsons. Yesterday we were jumping 80 feet off a 120 ramp which is a dam big jump on a Harley. We have been getting some pretty cool pics which I might be able to show a couple to you all. Apart from that my next show is at the St Kilda fest in Melbourne and I’m just practicing my ass off for the EXFMX tour in Europe which starts in May and goes for 3 months. Well guys and girls it’s time to get out of bed and go ride so seeup.

Sauly Update – 2011 Crusty Demons ‘Thirst for Destruction’ Tour

G’day!

The last few months have been really busy for me as I’m not with Showtime anymore and I didn’t have a bike sponsor and it was getting close to the all new and very improved Crusty capital city tour. I had a phone call from a buddy in my home town of Gladstone saying Husqvarna wanted to have a meeting with me about riding for them. I was a bit worried as no one in the world has ever done freestyle on them. So I thought I would go in there and have a chat to the guys at Husqvarna at the Gold Coast. I hadn’t seen the bikes before but as soon as I seen them I fell in love maybe even more then my ex girlfriend haha. They are a great bunch of guys there at the Paul Feeny Group and they offered me an awesome spot on their team riding the all new TC 250 4 strokes.

While they had to build me a bike I went on a little road trip down to Sydney for the new Crusty movie premiere which I had some cool sections in so you better check that out. Then it was time for me to step outside of my comfort zone and try some different riding. It was Robbie Maddisons Red Bull X Ray, now that event was crazy. Jumps that were as big as 160 feet all natural terrain, no ramps and cause I haven’t done much of that you can imagine how nervous I would have been. I ended up getting pretty comfortable on the jumps and also throwing some big tricks over the 160 footer which made up for me not jumping one of the jumps haha but hopefully the thousands of people didn’t notice that J. After that scary weekend a few of us boys headed to Jackson Strong’s place to do a bit of filming for the new on the pipe movie and it’s always fun at Jacko’s house.

Ok back home to test out my new Husqvarna with only 2 weeks before the start of the Crusty tour. Straight away I felt really comfortable on it so it was all good to go. It was raining so much at the Gold Coast and we had to do some mods to the sub frame for the grab holes that I didn’t really get much time to ride it before I had to send it off to Perth. This brings me to now sitting on the virgin plain getting really nervous just thinking about back flipping this Harley Davidson again on this tour.

It was a long week of rehearsals for the new show but we ended up getting through it all and the show turned out pretty good for the first one of tour. In my opinion there needs to be a lot of changes but I’m sure they will sort it out by the next stop.

It was time for me to flip the Harley again and I was more nervous than ever before, but as soon as the crowd stood on their feet and started going crazy I knew I had it covered. It was one of the cleanest flips I’ve done.

Then it was on to the next stop at Adelaide, it was another sweet show with Jackson Strong landing his front flip and I also landed my Harley flip once again. Come time for the Melbourne show the next weekend and I had a bit of a get off coming up a little short on the Harley and crashing it pretty heavy, 270kg’s landing on my left leg and did a fair bit of damage to my ankle and knee. My ankle was black and blue and I could barely walk on it. Off to the doctor I went, after taking my sock off and showing him he said mate that thing is broken. So we had a little bet going as I was saying it definitely wasn’t broken. I had x rays that next morning and he rang me that afternoon and said yeah Sauly your right mate it’s not broken but you’ve done some major ligament damage. It was 2 weeks before the next show so I had some time to rest.

Now it was time for the Brisbane show with all my family and friends there so I really had to perform. I was in so much pain cause of my ankle and knee but I definitely wasn’t missing this show. Its amazing what a few pain killers and just trying to be tuff will do for you haha. Brisbane show was a success. Even more time to rest as the Sydney show was 2 weeks after Brisbane.

Sauly switches to Husky for Crusty ‘Thirst for Destruction’ Tour!

Former Australasian Freestyle Motocross (FMX) Champion and star Crusty Demon’s of Dirt tour rider Kain Saul has made the switch to ride Husqvarna motorcycles in the upcoming ‘Thirst for Destruction Tour’

25 year old Saul became an integral part of the Crusty Demon’s world wide brand since becoming the first to land a backflip on a 225 kg Harley Davidson motorcycle almost a year ago; however the Queenslander from Gladstone has been riding with the group for over five years.

The move to Husqvarna, makes Saul the first Australian FMX’er to represent the brand, a job he takes very seriously.

“Being the first to represent Husqvarna in FMX is really important to me. At first my plan was just to have a ride of the all new TC 250 and see how it felt; but almost straight away I felt right at home and knew I would have no problem adjusting in time for the Crusty Tour.” Kain Saul said.

Known for having some of the biggest tricks in FMX, Saul has already mastered some of his best within days of boarding his you machine; proving the new machine is up to the task. Weighing in at just 92kg and having bee completely redesigned for 2010; the Husqvarna range of motocross bikes are one of the industries big movers.

Sauly Update! Paraguay with Josh Sheehan

My most recent trip to Paraguay went a little like this = Over 40 hours of flying and being in Airports, the most amount of beer i have ever drank in my life, wanting to bring every chick i met back to Australia to be my new girl haha and having a whole lot of fun ☺
So it was back to Asuncion in Paraguay again to do another show at their annual expo on July 22nd. This time it was huge! 3 hours before the show i realized the air screw was hanging out of my carby so it was rush rush trying to get this bike going as it didn’t run very well. The show ended up being that big they had to get the riot police in with the shields and batons, the kind of stuff you see on movies. Over 20 thousand people going crazy. The show was a lot of fun as Josh Sheehan, Chino from chilli and myself really turned it on for the crowd. The expo loved the show so much that they put on another one a couple of days later. This time they we’re prepared. As we were gearing up, in came over 100 police, including the riot police to keep this crowd under control. My aim was to try and get a riot started but i think the police had more power over them then i did as i failed with that.

It was so much fun getting to hang out with all the guys and girls from Asuncion again as they would have to be the nicest people on the planet and will do anything for you. It kinda makes you feel like your royalty. They were kind enough to give me the nick name of kangaroo gay (real nice of them)
For some reason i have a bad case of memory lose when i go out drinking but luckily all the guys are kind enough to tell me all the funny things that i was carrying on with haha which i can’t really say on here sorry :p

Paraguay would have to have the hottest chicks in the world living there. Unlucky for me i don’t speak Spanish so i didn’t do very well in that side of things, I’m definitely learning Spanish now. I ended up staying for an extra week cause i wanted to have a little bit of a holiday cause i need it haha and also was hoping to find myself a new chicky which i found but she kept telling me she didn’t speak any English when i swear she was talking English to some other guys……. Weird hahaha.
Over all i had the best time as i always do when i go to Asuncion and can’t wait to go back next year or hopefully earlier.
I also want to give a huge congrats to Sincs, Levi and Maddo. Those boys killed it at X Games this year

Which brings me to right now, I’m sitting at Buenos Aires airport waiting for my flight to head back to the Australia. Then it’s back into a lot of practicing getting ready for the all new and improved Crusty Demons ‘Thirst for Destruction’ tour which starts in October. These shows are going to be crazy. So stayed tunned until then!
